PRINCETON (NEWS RELEASE) -- On Monday, March 3, 2014, the Chuck Mathena Center officially welcomed the new Executive Director to the full-time staff. Choskie Harmon joins the CMC staff four months after the position became vacant. His arrival has CMC hopeful for the future of the organization and the advancement of arts in the community.

As a native of Princeton, West Virginia, Harmon has been a lifelong participant and supporter of visual and performing arts. During his time at Princeton Senior High School, he was a member of the elite Madrigal Singers and the first African American from PSHS to attend the Governor's School for the Arts for vocal training. Choskie received his college degree from Concord University, where he studied English and Secondary Education. During his time at Concord, he began teaching dance at the Princeton Dance Studio, where he still instructs on a regular basis. After graduating with honors from Concord, Harmon taught middle and high school English for six years, and most recently, theatre at Bluefield High School.

Through his involvement with Princeton Dance Studio, Harmon is an award winning choreographer, and has had his work featured locally and throughout the states of Virginia and West Virginia. Additionally, he has performed in, choreographed and produced pageants for the Miss West Virginia's Outstanding Teen and Miss West Virginia International.  Under the direction of Janis Gunnoe, he has performed numerous times at the West Virginia Dance Festival in Charleston, West Virginia.

"I really look forward to serving the community that I have grown up, performed, and worked in as the Executive Director at CMC. I was raised in this community and take pride in the fact that I have the same values and beliefs that people still hold important." comments Harmon.

The new appointment begins a new chapter at the Chuck Mathena Center, a chapter that staff and supporters alike are excited to start. "The best thing we can do with the past is learn from it and move forward, and that is exactly what we are doing." says Ashley Dillow, Marketing Director. "This community has supported us in ways we never could have imagined during this transition, and we look forward to making everyone just as proud of us as we are of the area we serve".

"The CMC is a place for growth. Every person that visits will grow in some way, whether it's learning something new, becoming a better performer, forming new bonds or experiencing something for the first time." Harmon says. "In order for a community to thrive, growth has to occur".

Plans for the upcoming 2014–2015 season are already underway while the 2013-2014 wraps up with Driving Miss Daisy, Rhonda Vincent, and a Buddy Holly tribute in the lineup. Dillow says "with the newest addition to our team, we look forward to making the seventh season at CMC the best one we've ever offered the area and we would like to invite everyone to rediscover the new CMC".
