UPDATE: Officer Released From Hospital Following High Speed Car Chase


PRINCETON (WVVA) -- A police officer is released from the hospital following a high speed car chase in Mercer County.

It happened on Old Bluefield Road in Princeton just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to police, Jerry Martin Jr. of Virginia was speeding on Courthouse Road, when an officer attempted a traffic stop.

Martin refused to pull over, and police said the officer then called for reinforcements.

After hitting two Princeton police vehicles and a utility pole in an attempt to escape, police said martin sped toward the 460 junction -- hitting a third police car driven by officer E.D. Leftwich.

Martin was then arrested and both Leftwich and Martin were airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Police said Martin was wanted out of Charlottesville and Staunton, Virginia.


PRINCETON (WVVA) - One person was airlifted Tuesday morning after an accident in Princeton.

Dispatchers say the accident occurred just before two at the intersection of 4-60 and Willow Brook Road.

Crews worked 25 minutes cutting the driver free from the vehicle before transporting that person to Hunnicutt Stadium to be airlifted….dispatchers could not confirm if the injures were life threatening.

Mercer County Sheriff, Princeton Police Department, Princeton Rescue, and East River Fire Departments were all on scene.
