Residents are Recovering 3 Months After a Fire in Marlinton

MARLINTON (WVVA)- Two of the burnt buildings in downtown Marlinton have been demolished. Crews are working to tear down the third.

Mayor Joe Smith has organized an economic task force to revitalize all of downtown Marlinton. He says "I feel good now. I feel very positive about Marlinton."

Some Local business owners don't feel the same way. Delores Cutlip says downtown is like a ghost town and the loss of those buildings has cut her flower business in half.

She says,"We have absolutely no foot traffic now. We hardly ever see anybody on the street."

As far as the future of the demolished buildings one of the three building owners has a set plan.

"It's going to be a commercial space on the ground floor with suites on the second floor," says Mayor Smith.

Until the building is up and running Delores say "When vision becomes reality then I will say this is an improvement."

City officials say it'll be tough but the town can get through this hard time.
