Police discuss "Andrew's Law" before General Assembly

RICHMOND, W. Va (WVVA)-- More than a year has passed since Trooper Andrew Fox, a Tazewell native and officer with the Virginia State Police, was struck and killed by a reckless driver outside the Virginia State Fair.

His family and friends have been pushing "Andrew's Law" to provide stiffer penalties for striking officers.

A group appeared before the General Assembly to advocate for the bill before the criminal justice subcommittee.

If passed, Andrew's Law would making striking an officer a felony charge with more severe consequences than the law currently provides.

The driver that hit Fox was given a $1000 fine and 12 months suspended sentence.

Andrew's family and friends say this bill to protect other police and emergency responders is their tribute to Andrew's memory.
