Gregory Rushing, 38, of Gary was arrested Saturday on charges of petit larceny, tampering with pipes, and procuring water with intent to defraud.

Gary Police Chief S.P. McKinney went to Rushing's home with a water company employee after receiving a complaint about an illegal water hookup. Once at the home the stolen meter was found with water hooked up and running through it.

The meter was removed and taken back to the water company's office where it was determined to have been stolen from another customer.
