Fire department suffers structural damage from winter weather

JUMPING BRANCH (WVVA) -- A volunteer fire department is working to take care of structural damage to their facility.

The Jumping Branch and Nimitz volunteer fire department has some roof damage following last week's winter storm.

They have moved valuable equipment and trucks to their sister station, Summers County Volunteer Fire Department.  Jumping Branch and Nimitz are still responding to fires.  Summers County will be heading out to their calls in the meantime too.

"We probably had in excess of 25, 26 inches of snow there on top of the fire house," says Michael Cooper, president and CEO of the Jumping Branch and Nimitz Fire Department.  "It just simply violated the integrity of the structure in the sense that it kind of brought the roof down some, and at this point, as far as we know, just some trust damage."

The department will be bringing in the insurance adjuster to assess the damage in the coming days.
