Alleged McDonalds shooter on trial in Mercer County court

PRINCETON, W. Va (WVVA)-- A Bluefield man is on trial in Mercer County court after firing shots at a Princeton McDonalds last May.

According to his indictment, police allege that Steven Michael Williams shot at two men, who were in a vehicle at the McDonalds on Oakvale Road in Princeton.

In court Tuesday, both of those men, Devin Honaker and Kody Smith, testified that the bullets hit their car.

Defense attorney Ryan Flanigan alleges that Williams was not the one who fired the shots. He reviewed surveillance tapes from the nearby Sheetz for the court. Flanigan questioned witness testimony about the color shirt the alleged shooter had been wearing, contrasting it with the shirt Williams was seen wearing in the video.

Williams is charged with wanton endangerment, unlawful shooting, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He stands convicted of other crimes in Tazewell County-- a jury found him guilty of malicious wounding on July 27, 2011.

His current trial is expected to continue Wednesday.
