Seniors rally for in-home care at Capitol

CHARLESTON (WVVA) - West Virginia seniors rallied at the State Capitol Monday over the need for in-home care services.

The senior rally focused on access and choice for in-home care services.

The West Virginia Aged and Disabled Waiver Program helps the state's elderly and disabled stay in their own homes.

Currently there is a freeze on the program, with more than 2,000 people waiting to enter.

"The numbers show that it's cheaper and better effective when those folks are allowed to stay in their home," said Sen. Mike Green, "Overall it's just a win-win situation, and we have to prioritize and make sure we have funding for our seniors."

Nearly one-third of the state's population is age 55 or older.
