School levy passes by a large margin

WELCH (WVVA) -- The results are in for a special election in McDowell County.  Residents had the opportunity to vote for or against a school levy that expires in February.

The levy passed by a landslide, 757 for and only 57 against.

It will provide financial support to improve school grounds, pay utilities, fund instructional supplies and more.

The levy will also help libraries.

"A big thank you to all the voters that came out and supported the levy.  That speaks volumes about the people of McDowell County and what they feel about the educational system that we have," says Nelson Spencer, superintendent.  "With a 93% passage rate, I think that says it all."

The levy goes into effect July 1.
