BLUEFIELD (WVVA) -- A West Virginia television icon was laid to rest in Mercer County Monday.

Jackie Oblinger, 85, passed away Friday in Wytheville. She was among the first women in West Virginia television and enjoyed a long career in Bluefield and Charleston.  

Oblinger was a part of WVVA-TV in its early years when it broadcast under the call letters WHIS.

She also worked for many years at WCHS-TV in Charleston before returning to the Bluefield area in later years to serve her community in many different ways.

Oblinger taught at Bluefield College for 19 years, and was involved in WVVA's March of Dimes Teleramas.

Oblinger was honored by the West Virginia Broadcasters Hall of Fame as one of the most influential television personalities in West Virginia.  

Visitation was Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Virginia.

Funeral services were to be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bluefield, West Virginia, with burial following at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
