UPDATE: Director of Emergency Services comments on job elimination

Posted:

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- The Director of Emergency Services position in Beckley is no more as of Friday.

Kevin Taylor found out last week that the city of Beckley will be doing away with his services.

Taylor was appointed to this position after retiring from the city as a firefighter for 33 years.

He tells WVVA he hopes to continue to serve the area, but is stunned by what happened.

"I was shocked.  Obviously I had no idea it was coming.  That was first I even heard about it," says Taylor.  "I know and had heard that the city had some concerns, financial concerns, and there are budgets being cut and certain other actions have been taking place and will still be forthcoming. Certainly this news was first I heard."

Taylor will hold the position until the end of March.
