Motorists struggle even on major interstates

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- I-77 and I-64 are not only major lifelines in southern West Virginia.  They are essential for travelers from Ohio to Florida to the east coast.

Drivers say conditions in the Carolinas were especially tough this morning, where they are not used to seeing winter weather of this magnitude.

According to people stopped at the exit 45 rest area, the roads were not the only issue.

"This is the first time I've been able to get food since six o'clock this morning, other than snacks at gas stations" says Anthony Howard, traveling north from Florida.  "Everything else has been closed."

Even if the interstate looks clear, beware of black ice as the temperatures drop overnight.
