Public Schools will once again host their Community Forums in the month
of February, throughout the three regions.
These forums will be a great way for TCPS parents and community members to "Give Your Voice" to TCPS in five sessions focusing on
Elementary Education, Middle School Education, Secondary Education, Career and Technical and Technology.
Graham hosts the first forum on Monday, February 17 from 7-9 p.m., at Graham Middle School. Tazewell will host their forum Tuesday,
February 18 from 7-9 p.m., at
Tazewell Middle School. The spring open forums will wrap up on February
24, with Richlands hosting the final forum from 7-9 p.m., at
Richlands Middle School.
Each forum will have five sessions, each 30 minutes long, led
by Central Office Supervisors and staff where ideas will be formulated
around topics highlighted as "priorities" at the fall forums. These
items were discussed recently with committee members in the five areas.
After the fall
forums, Central Office Supervisors met in committees made up of
community volunteers who attended the fall forums, principals in the
region and staff members. Ideas that were designated as
hot topics and priorities for the area were once again discussed in
"These forums are a great way to increase community and parent involvement. The ideas that are shared, are
on the forefront of instruction
and technology in the region. With community members and parents in each
of the three areas, sharing hot topics and priorities for the schools
in their region. The ideas were then combined together and discussed
within committees. Every conversation point during
the fall forum was reviewed by Dr. Meyer, Christine Kinser, and the
supervisors, so the ideas were seen and heard from those participating,"
said Kayla Myers, public relations and communications specialist for
Tazewell County Public Schools.
In the spring the
setup will be a little different in that Tazewell County Public Schools
will center the topic of discussion around the fall ideas and how they
could work within the school system and fit
within the budget. Two new ideas on the table for discussion, the gifted and talented program and the literacy initiative, these topics will
be discussed within the three educational sessions. New ideas will of coarse be taken from community members and parents.
These forums are a twice a year event for TCPS, one will be hosted in the fall and then again in the spring.
