McDowell Co. school levy up for vote this week

WELCH, W. Va (WVVA)-- Voters in McDowell County have a chance to continue the school levy.

Its 5 years expires this month, and it's once again up for a vote.

The levy would provide financial support for schools to improve grounds, pay utilities, provide for safety (like a School Resource Officer at each high school), and go toward instructional supplies.

An information sheet provided by the school board also reads that some funding from the levy can be used for construction and capital improvements, including new schools.

It would also assist area libraries; specifically the McDowell County Public Library and the War Public Library.

We are told this would not be a tax increase for residents.

Early voting began February 1stand runs through Wednesday. Regular voting is this Saturday, February 15th.

If passed, the levy would apply July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2018.
