TAZEWELL (WVVA) - Detectives with the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office were instrumental in the arrest and conviction of a U.S. soldier who was found in possession of a substantial amount of child pornography.

The investigation began when investigators in Tazewell County identified a computer with a Bluefield, Va., IP address offering to participate in the sharing of child pornography. Images of child pornography were then downloaded, in an undercover fashion, from the suspect IP address.

The investigation ultimately led to Cpl. Gregory M. Willis, a 26-year-old serving with the United States Army at Fort Campbell, Ky.

Tazewell County investigators turned over information toe the Fort Campbell Military Police, who executed a search warrant an seized several items used to store digital media from Willis.

Records show Willis was in possession of more than 7,000 images and 54 videos containing child porn.

Willis pleaded guilty in December 2013 to one count of possession of child pornography in excess of five images and in excess of five videos. In January, Willis was sentenced to two years in federal prison, a reduction from corporal to private, forfeiture of all pay and a bad conduct discharge from the military.
