53 people become US citizens in W.Va. ceremony

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- More than 50 people representing 32 countries have become U.S. citizens in Charleston.

U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin presided over a naturalization ceremony on Monday. Fifty-three people took the oath of allegiance.

Mansoor Ahmad from Pakistan tells the Charleston Daily Mail that he hopes to become a lawyer in West Virginia. He says he's excited to become a citizen because the U.S. is the land of freedom and opportunity.

Maryam Fatima Mohammed from Ghana says she's happy to not only be a U.S. citizen, but also to be a West Virginian.
