Four-part series on responsible industrial development

BEAVER (WVVA) - Tuesday night was the first in a four-part series on responsible industrial development.

Speakers and attendees of the first night of the series gathered at the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center in Beaver, WV. The first part of the series centered on the topic of protecting the watershed program, and learning about water usage within the state.

Speakers also discussed the recent chemical spill, and how it affected tourism, as well as the day-to-day lives of residents.

Karen Vuranch, a professor at Concord University, says it is important to Understand these topics and how they effect our society. "We need to address the issue of industrial pollution of the water," says Vuranch, adding that while there is no denying the need to keep local jobs, the issue of protecting our water must be addressed.

The next installment, currently scheduled for the March 4th,  in the four-part series will explore the legacy of coal.
