Cold temperatures keep some Mercer County buses from making runs

Posted:

PRINCETON (WVVA) - Many Mercer County parents were angry Thursday after several school buses failed to arrive for pickup in the morning.

Assistant Superintendent Joe Turner tells WVVA News nearly 25 percent of the county's buses were not able to begin their routes due to engine problems.

Turner believes cold weather is to blame, causing "gelling" of fuel that kept the engines from running.

No children were on buses when they broke down, but parents we spoke with say their children were left standing in the cold for more than a half hour before they were notified their buses would not be coming -- something they say is potentially dangerous.

Mercer County Schools were on a two-hour delay Thursday.
