APCO announces coal-fired power plant closures


(WVVA)- Appalachian PowerPresident and COO Charles Patton tells WVVA that the Glen Lyn power plant willbe closing and that EPA regulations are playing a major role.

The Kanawha Riverplant, which is just outside of Charleston,and the Sporn units near Point Pleasant, will also be closing.

Another oneof APCO's Virginiaplants will be converted to natural gas in lieu of closing.

Patton says it would cost AppalachianPower at least 200 to 300 million dollars to upgrade these plants to meet EPAstandards. Company officials are doing everything they can to curb job lossfrom these plant closures.
