Despite 'do not use' order, water bills rise

Posted:

CHARLESTON (WVVA) -- The chemical spill is leaving some West Virginia American Water customers confused.  Their bills went up last month, even though they did not use their water for days.

Some customers say their bills increased as much as 40 percent from the previous month.

A water company spokeswoman says the post spill flushing may be to blame for the increase.  A promised 1,000 gallon credit on water bills for the flushing has not been applied yet.

This proceeds the January 9 chemical leak that left 300,000 West Virginia American Water customers unable to use their water.
