Former Beckley Police Chief releases statement

After being relieved of his duties as police chief by new Beckley Mayor Bill O'Brien, former Beckley Police Chief Timothy Deems released the following statement:

"With any new administration, change is certain to happen.  I will continue to serve the citizens of Beckley as a Captain at the Beckley Police Department with the same commitment and dedication I have served the citizens over the last 24 years.  I want to thank my family, friends and the community for all their support and prayers during my tenure and through this transition."  - Timothy Deems, Beckley Police Department
Mayor O'Brien named Lonnie Christian as Acting Police Chief saying Christian reflected his management style and would better represent the new administration.

Christian will serve as Acting Chief until his confirmation hearing by the Beckley Common Council on Tuesday.
