LEWISBURG (WVVA) - Several events are planned across the region to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

In Lewisburg, the community will holds its annual MLK Walk. The event begins at 11 a.m. at the courthouse. There will be a community lunch and short program.

At the Davy Fire Department in McDowell County, backpacks filled with snacks and personal care items will be distributed to children 12 and under from the communities of Davy, Asco, Marytown and Twin Branch.

AmeriCorps members at Twin Branch Adventure Facility are conducting this Day of Service that will also include games, activities, refreshments and more

The Appalachian Coal Country Team will be using the holiday to conduct a volunteer recruitment drive to support the Carpenter's Corner meal program in downtown Beckley.

The Carpenter's Corner provides free meals to those in need and is seeking new volunteer support.

Anyone interested in volunteering can come to the Carpenter's Corner at 104 East Prince Street between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to learn more.
