Veterans Will Have New Access to Health Care in Mercer County

Beckley, W.Va.  – The Beckley Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center will be offering primary care to eligible and enrolled Veterans in Mercer County via their new mobile health clinic beginning Tuesday, February 18, 2014.  The 38-foot long mobile health clinic will be parked initially in the Bluefield City Park Complex at 1780 Stadium Drive in Bluefield, WV.
Veterans will be seen by scheduled appointment only with the hours of operation being Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The unit includes two exam rooms, a waiting area, and a restroom and will be staffed with three health care professionals, including a physician, registered nurse, and licensed practical nurse, along with a medical support assistant/driver.
"We are pleased to bring primary health care to the Veterans in southern West Virginia because a lot of Veterans live in more rural areas and have difficulty getting to the medical center," said Karin L. McGraw, director for the Beckley VA Medical Center.  "We greatly appreciate the support given by the City of Bluefield as we begin using this exciting addition to the medical center's health care system."
At full capacity the mobile clinic will be capable of providing primary care to a panel of 1,200 Veterans.   Letters notifying more than 3,500 Veterans of the opportunity to receive care via the mobile clinic are being processed and mailed. However, all Veterans living within Mercer County who are enrolled for care at the Beckley VA Medical Center and are interested in transferring their primary care treatment to the mobile health clinic can call 1-877-902-5142, Extension 4233 or Extension 4460 to do so.
All Veterans and the community are invited to attend a celebratory ribbon cutting with tours of the mobile health clinic to be held in the community center at the Bluefield City Park Complex on Thursday, February 13, 2014, beginning at 11 a.m.  Tours will continue until 1:30 p.m.
For more information, call Debbie Voloski, Public Affairs Officer at 304-255-2121, Extension 4883.
