Ruling: Police justified in fatal Giles County shooting

Posted:

PEARISBURG (WVVA) - Special prosecution says no charges will be pressed against law enforcement in a police involved shootout in Giles County.

32-year-old Jonathan Robertson of Giles County was shot and killed in Pearisburg on Oct. 26, 2013, following a police chase with shots fired in three spots.

Robertson was wanted for robbery, aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Virginia's attorney in Salem -- Thomas Bowers -- justified police using firearms, finding reasonable belief that the officers were in imminent danger because Robertson brandished and fired a weapon, and initiated the violence.
