Remembering a Navy helicopter crash

LEWISBURG (WVVA) -- In memory of a Navy helicopter crash near Snowshoe Resort in 2010, The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine held a seminar for future physicians who may be serving rural areas.

The crash happened on February 18, 2010.  Seventeen military personnel were doing a training exercise from Virginia to Elkins, West Virginia when they came across some bad weather.  The pilot couldn't see the elements around him and collided on the side of the mountain.  They were trapped for up to 36 hours, until rescue.

All personnel had medical backgrounds.  This came in handy when trying to survive in conditions as such.

Sunday, military members at the school spoke to young doctors about some key factors that they may see in rural communities.

All members on board survived the crash and hope that others will learn from the experience.
