West Virginia named most improved in humane state law making

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- West Virginia is being recognized for their treatment of animal on a national scale.  The Humane Society of the United States names the mountain state the "most improved" in humane state law making.

Four state legislators were awarded "humane legislator of the year," including Senator William Laird from Fayette County.

Over the past year these men have worked to regulate puppy mills and fund spay/neuter programs, which trickle down to local shelters.

California held on to the number one spot in the humane state rankings, while South Dakota was said to have the weakest animal protection laws nationwide.
