GILBERT (WVVA) - A Mingo County man is behind bars after being accused of biting his infant stepson multiple times.
On Wednesday at approximately 6:30 p.m., Senior Trooper J. D. Matheny with the Williamson Detachment of the West Virginia State Police responded to Appalachian Regional Hospital in reference to a 10 month-old child who had been bitten several times, according to a State Police news release.
During the course of the investigation, Matheny developed probable cause to arrest the child's stepfather, 20-year-old Bobby Lee Thomas of Gilbert.
Police believe Thomas bit the child in an attempt to keep him from crying further.
Thomas was arrested for child abuse by a parent creating injury and was arraigned in Mingo County Magistrate Court.
He is currently being held at Southwestern Regional Jail on $30,000 bond.
