Many brave the cold to do jobs outside

BLUEFIELD, W. Va (WVVA)-- These frigid temperatures are certainly dangerous for those who remain outdoors for a long period of time.

The risk of frostbite is very real if you don't bundle up, or just stay inside altogether.

But some people have to work outside as part of their jobs-- and that means they are taking serious precautions to stay safe.

We caught up with mail carrier Wayne Hinkins, who was braving the elements Monday morning in Bluefield as he worked his route.

The mail trucks have chains on their tires, and he is well equipped with thick gloves and boots, but the cold is hard to bear.

He says sometimes it gets in the way as postal workers move from street to street.

"There's already been some streets we've had to skip because of the weather and the snow on the ground," said Hinkins. "As far as these hills, I mean, our trucks just won't go sometimes."

Of course, the United States Postal Service continues to serve its customers to the best of its ability even during the cold months.

But it's not easy, especially when these frigid temperatures move in.
