Severe health risks associated with frigid temperatures

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- With the frigid weather comes the risk for hypothermia and frost bite.  When the temperature outside is 28 degrees or less, it can do bodily harm to the exposed skin.

Hypothermia starts the slowing of cognitive activities and can cause confusion. Frost bite is a concern when exposed skin goes from red to gray or even yellow without treatment.

Physicians at Raleigh General Hospital say it is important to dress properly, in warm layers, during this time of the year.  Also, seek medical attention immediately if you are undergoing symptoms of hypothermia or frost bite.
