There's a new mayor in town, officially

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- The city of Beckley swore in their 36th mayor Friday afternoon.  Former radio host, Bill O'Brien took over the reigns.

Raleigh County Judge Burnside administered the oath in front of a packed house at Beckley City Hall.

Council members were present, including the runner-up to the mayor's seat, Cedric Robertson.

Being a former radio host, O'Brien is no stranger to speaking to large crowds, but he kept his remarks brief, saying he was honored about the new position and thanking the citizens for their support.

"Now it's time to come down to earth," says O'Brien.  "I've already talked to most of the department heads, and I'll start meeting with them next week.  Also going to meet with each individual council person and get their ideas, and we'll formulate on the future."

O'Brien proceeds former Mayor Emmett Pugh, after he agreed to step down last year as part of a settlement with the West Virginia Ethics Commission.
