Fayetteville Attorney Charged in Connection to Charleston Shooting

Fayetteville (WVVA) -- A Fayetteville attorney turns himself into police in connection with a New Year's Day shooting in downtown Charleston.

Police said Jamison Conrad is being charged with accessory to the crime after he removed the suspect's cell phone from the crime scene.

Charles Scott of Charleston was wounded in the shooting.

According to police, Conrad and Michael Underwood of Beckley had been partying in Charleston on New Year's Eve. Upon their return to the Ramada Inn later that night, a fight broke out in the hallway over a misunderstanding about a phone number.

After Scott was shot, police say Conrad picked up the suspect's cell phone and took it to his room, leaving the victim bleeding on the floor.

Conrad is a mental hygiene commissioner in Fayette County.
