TAZEWELL (WVVA) - Fire crews from multiple departments spent New Year's Eve battling a large blaze on Main Street in Tazewell.

Dispatchers say the call came in around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Guru's Thrift Store, located at 203 West Main Street beside the Courthouse was completely destroyed.

The Flux J. Neo Law Firm office -- in the old National Bank building -- suffered severe damage as well.

Crews were trying to keep the fire from spreading into adjacent Beckers Jewelry. The Guru building -- also known locally as the old Peery & St. Clair building -- also contains apartments and offices.

No injuries were reported.

Guru owner Robert Johann said the 5,000 square-foot business had approximately $65,000 worth of inventory inside.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Town officials said the buildings operate on coal furnace heat.

Fire crews from Tazewell, Clear Fork, Bluefield Va., Baptist Valley, Thompson Valley and Richlands fire departments all responded to the scene.

Tazewell Town Police and Virginia State Troopers were on scene working to control traffic.

Town officials worked to put salt on the roads as the water used to fight the fires was freezing the roadways.
