Wrapping up a soggy December in the Two Virginias!
With overall milder temperatures and an active month weather-wise, we've seen high rain amounts for this month. Sunday's rain brought us over the edge in Bluefield with nearly an inch of rain picked up, bringing monthly totals to just shy of 5 inches! This puts Bluefield at their #1 wettest December on record, breaking the 4.86" record set back in 1969.
Beckley saw a soaker Sunday with rain totals of 1.44 inches, bringing their monthly total to 6.33 inches! This will put Beckley at #4 all time wettest December, behind 7.08" 1922, 6.75" 1948, and 6.43" in 1991.
The official numbers for the month and year will be out later this week, but we can call this a mild & wet December for sure.
Sunday's rain totals were high for many in the 2 Virginias:
Covel, WV 1.7"
Mullens, WV 1.7"
Peterstown, WV 1.5"
Beckley, WV 1.44"
Bluefield, WV (WVVA studio) 1.05"
Richlands, VA 1.2"

And this is just some of the totals we are getting in.
The Precision Weather Team is calling for scattered snow showers through Monday morning which may bump the monthly precip totals up a bit. The official numbers will be out a few days into the New Year.
