Rainfall estimates for Saturday night through Monday
Rain totals for Sunday by 6pm.
Bluefield, WV (WVVA) -- As holiday travels continue this weekend, approaching rain for Sunday is already causing traffic concerns. Rain is expected to move north Saturday night from the Gulf of Mexico and head toward New England by Sunday night.
Mild temperatures will allow wet weather from this system to fall mainly as rain, but some in New England will see snow or a mix. Rain will be the main concern and will be heavy at times for many travelers.
Here in the Two Virginias, we are expecting close to an inch of rain to fall Sunday morning and early afternoon. Traffic may become delayed or congested along interstates that are already looking at high volumes of travelers.
Travel will be the worst along the I95 corridor from the Deep South all the way to New England. Rainfall amounts may top two inches across the Carolinas and eastern VA.
Better travel days are ahead though with only a few snow showers Monday and sunshine returning Tuesday. Cold temperatures will be the big story as we wrap up 2013.
