Iaeger Elementary students, parents prepare for first day at new schools

BRADSHAW, W. Va (WVVA)-- Iaeger Elementary students have been without a school after a part of its parking lot fell into the Tug River.

Two week ago McDowell County School officials decided to make space for them in two different buildings-- Bradshaw Elementary and River View High Schools.

Wednesday, parents and students got a sneak peek of their new temporary classrooms there.

After taking a tour of the new schools and hearing the details, parents say this was the best option available to get their kids back to class.

"She still has her fifth grade class and still has her friends so that's ok," said Kathy Coleman, whose daughter Stormy attended Iaeger Elementary. "I think that considering the other options, everything worked out."

Joey Proffitt, whose son attended Iaeger Elementary, agreed.

"It makes me feel good that they're going to be safe and they're going to be looked after," he said."

After seeing River View, where his son's assigned classroom is, Proffitt liked the upgrade from the old elementary school building. "It's going to be great," he said.

Even though the new schools are a distance away from Iaeger Elementary, Superintendent Nelson Spencer says bus drop-off and pick-up times will be the same as before.

He told WVVA this arrangement is only temporary, but will last for at least two to three months.
