572 arrests made in six-state DUI crackdown

(SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV) – Five hundred seventy-two DUI arrests were made in a three-day, multi-agency enforcement campaign called the 6 State Trooper Project.

The West Virginia State Police joined forces with Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Indiana state police agencies on major interstates December 6-8, 2013 in an ongoing effort to combat impaired driving.

"The West Virginia State Police continually works hard to inform the public of the dangers of impaired driving by participating in highway safety programs such as the 6 State Trooper Project and conducting sobriety checkpoints throughout the state.

Those who choose to become impaired have numerous options available to them rather than getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.  Among those options include the use a designated driver, calling a cab service, or simply staying where they are until they sober up.

However, too often we see media reports tragically detailing how yet another impaired driver has ruined their life or the life of some innocent, unsuspecting person.  As a police officer, there are few things worse than having to deliver a death message to the families left behind as a result of such inexcusable behavior."
