Former doctor's office employee pleads guilty to federal drug charge

BECKLEY (WVVA) - A former receptionist at a Beckley doctor's office who was accused of stealing a prescription pad and illegally obtaining painkillers has pleaded guilty in Federal Court.

Tina Marie Richmond, 41, of Beckley entered the plea Tuesday in front of Judge Irene Berger.

Richmond told investigators that on Aug. 2, she stole a prescription pad from the doctor's office she worked for and forged the doctor's signature on a script for 30 90mg oxycodone pills. She then gave the script to an acquaintance in exchange for money.

The prescription was filled at a Beckley pharmacy.

Richmond's arrest was one of nine made earlier this month after authorities uncovered the prescription fraud ring.

She faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. Sentencing is scheduled for April 17, 2014.

The Beckley Police Department is in charge of the investigation.
