BECKLEY (WVVA) - A routine traffic stop for speeding in Beckley led police to a pot bust and the arrest of a wanted fugitive.

Officers with the Beckley PD stopped a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Tiphanie Scott around 3 a.m. Tuesday in the Robert C. Byrd Drive, Ewart Avenue area.

A routine warrant check revealed that Scott's passenger, 31-year-old Johnnie Alston had an active warrant of file.

The occupants agreed to a vehicle search in which officers found approximately one pound of marijuana with an estimated street value of $2,400.

Both Scott and Alston were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Alston was also charged with obstructing an officer and the active warrant was served.

Both were being held at Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment.
