Taking Back Our Town: Leaders Host 2nd Town Hall on Prescription Pill Abuse

OCEANA (WVVA) -- Six months after a documentary rocked the foundation of a Wyoming County town, community members are coming together to take stock of progress made on prescription pill abuse.

Hundreds of people turned out last May for a town hall in Oceana after 'Oxyana's' debut at the Tribecca Film festival.

Residents were unprepared for the grim picture showing on the big screen -- babies crawling through barbed wire, a town stuck in the stranglehold of prescription pill abuse.

On Saturday, residents and state leaders are coming together to measure progress made in the last six months. From tougher law enforcement to more treatment facilities, dozens of ideas will be brought to the table by state leaders, law enforcement, and community members.

"Truth be told, Mr. Dunn told a story we didn't like. But here's where we have to get real. The film did speak to a prescription pill problem we have in this area and now we're going to come together for a solution," said organizer D.J. Morgan

The town hall, which is open to the public, will be held at Oceana Middle School at 2p.m.
