A former youth volunteer at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bluefield, West Virginia is facing several sexual abuse charges.

Thursday afternoon West Virginia State Police arrested Tim Probert of Bluefield, West Virginia on 38 felony abuse charges, 22 counts of sexual abuse by custodian, 6 counts of First Degree Sexual Abuse, 7 counts of Third Degree Sexual Assault, Distribution and Display of Obscene Matter to a Minor and Use or Sexually Explicit Content with the Intent to Seduce a minor.

Pastor Jonathan Rockness says Probert has not been involved with the youth group at the church for two years and he has since resigned as a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

State Police Sgt. M.D. Clemons says her office was approached initially about a situation involving the accused.  In that case, they found that while the behavior may have been inappropriate, no crime had been committed and the church was advised to handle it as a church body.  Sgt. Clemons says it was then that the criminal allegations came to light prompting a second visit by the church which launched a state police investigation.

Probert was arraigned Thursday before Mercer County Magistrate James Dent. Bond was set at $100,000.
