2014 Downtown Countdown set for Princeton

Princeton, WV - Downtown Princeton will gain a colorful tradition this holiday season with the introduction of the first annual "Downtown Countdown," a New Year's Eve celebration featuring a ball drop countdown, sparkling cider toast and fireworks at the stroke of midnight, four stages of music, street performers and more. The newly christened Renaissance Theater will light up with music by local rock favorite JC/BC with special guest vocalist Melissa McKinney and The Turnaround Concert and Gathering Hall will feature music by Patient Jazz and food and drink by Chooky's Cookies. DJ Dough-T will create a family friendly party in Princeton Town Square leading up to the countdown, and The "Hot Chocolate Spot" will be an indoor space where guests can warm up, enjoy hot cocoa and listen to acoustic music by Tim & Maggie Mainland. The street will be closed to traffic, and there will be street performers featuring performance artist Chally Erb, food for sale, and a general atmosphere of family-friendly merriment to ring in the new year. The event is the culmination of an exciting year of progress for the revitalization of Mercer Street.

Princeton Renaissance Project teams with several area organizations to make the event possible. Princeton Fire Department will drop the ball, LLyniuM entertainment will produce the stages and lighting, and "Jumpstart," a Mercer Street-based team of volunteers that meet weekly at Dayfly Books & Collectibles, are creating the ball and contributing in variety of ways. Chooky's Cookies will serve food and drink in The Turnaround, and Princeton 4-H will provide vending of hamburgers, etc.with a food truck courtesy of Sam Baker Insurance.

Fireworks are made possible by Ramey Toyota. Princeton Health Care Center, Seaver Funeral Home, Community Connections, WV Tobacco Quitline, WV Prescription Drug Quitline, Turnaround Concert and Gathering Hall and RiffRaff Arts Collective all come together to make this event happen. Cooperation from The City of Princeton and The Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce are also greatly appreciated.
