"Tie one on" event slated for December 12

Princeton, WV – The holidays are a time for celebration, visiting with loved ones, and reflecting on the year past and the year ahead.  Yet, all too often, the holiday spirit is destroyed by the recklessness of drunk, drugged, and distracted drivers.
Community Connections, Inc. – Mercer County's Family Resource Network – is joining with local law enforcement organizations, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), and other community leaders to kick off the annual "Tie One On For Safety" campaign with a PRESS EVENT on Thursday, December 12 at 12:00 Noon at Community Connections (215 South Walker Street, Princeton, WV).

The event will include remarks from the following individuals:

Greg Puckett, Executive Director, Community Connections, Inc.
Margie Sadler, Victim Services Specialist, MADD (West Virginia State Office)
PikeView High School SADD Chapter
In addition, the event will conclude with individuals tying red ribbons on their vehicles to symbolize their commitment to road safety throughout the year, but especially during the holiday season.
"Whether you've had one or one too many – drinking and driving is never worth the risk," said Greg Puckett, Executive Director at Community Connections.  "If you're going to drink, designate a sober driver before the party starts, and always encourage your friends and family to do the same."
Drunk, drugged, and distracted driving fatalities occur all year round, but data shows that the holiday season is a particularly dangerous time on the roadways.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 32,367 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2011; 31% of those fatalities occurred in drunk-driving-related crashes.
