UPDATE: Drug sweep targets dealers in Mercer County

PRINCETON (WVVA) - More than 20 Mercer County drug dealers have been targeted by law enforcement in a countywide roundup.

The roundup began around 4:30 a.m. Friday and was conducted across the county, Mercer County Sheriff Don Meadows said.

The sweep was conducted by the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, which is composed of officers from the West Virginia State Police, Mercer County Sheriff's Office, Bluefield PD, and Princeton PD -- as well as officers from McDowell and Wyoming counties.

Suspects were wanted on a variety of charges involving drugs including crack cocaine and prescription pills.

Bonds were being set at a minimum of $50,000, Meadows said. As many as 21 arrests are expected.

A total of 20 have been arrested. Following are the 13 names released to WVVA News:

  • Harry Thomas Hanley, 27 of Bluefield - Delivery of hydromorphone
  • Remuel Porterfield, 22 of Princeton - Delivery of cocaine
  • Jaumar Jones, 32 of Bluefield - Delivery of cocaine
  • Jimmy Dale Wright, 56 of Rock - Delivery of hydromorphone
  • Andre Byrant, 24 of Bluefield - Delivery of hydromorphone and cocaine
  • Eric Hendricks, 37 of Bluefield - Delivery of hydromorphone
  • Elijah Jones, 35 of McDowell County - Delivery of cocaine and heroin
  • Earl Sims, 38 of Bluefield - Delivery of cocaine
  • Ronald Hart, 42 of Montcalm - Delivery of hydromorphone
  • Gerald Browning, 46 of Montcalm - Delivery of hydromorphone
  • Travis Mullins, 21 of Montcalm - Delivery of hydromorphone
  • Darnell Younger, 25 of Bluefield - Delivery of crack-cocaine
  • Christopher Lee Thompson, 23 of Bluefield - Delivery of hydromorphone

Police are still searching for three individuals, believed to live in the Bluefield area:

  • Maurice 'Leir Jet' Gregory, is wanted for delivery of hydromorphone, cocaine and crack-cocaine.
  • CJ Martin is wanted for delivery of a controlled substance, hydromorphone, crack-cocaine and oxycodone.
  • 'VW,' real name unknown, is a male in his late 30s to mid 40s. His real name could be Kenneth or Kenny. He is wanted for delivery of hydromorphone.

    Bluefield leader laid to rest

    The Mercer County community was saddened on Saturday morning as Charles Peters, a longtime leader of Bluefield, was put to rest.  Charles was a major force in the coal industry for six decades. He also helped baseball rise in Bluefield and he aided everything from the Mercer County Airport to the local boy scouts.  Charles also was a veteran. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942.     Heavy rainfall causes flooding in Tazewell

    Saturday morning, flash flooding hit Tazewell County in a big way.  Heavy rain produced by slow moving thunderstorms closed roads, flooded homes and even lead to some rescues.  WVVA's own chief meteorologist Travis Roberts witnessed the flooding first-hand, and said that it was some of the worst flooding he had ever seen in that area.  Other residents reported basements and homes flooded with washed out driveways via social media.
