Bluestone Regional Business and Technology Center opens for public tours

SPRINGVILLE, Va (WVVA)-- The public now has a chance to explore a local industrial park and learn about it's goals.

"The Bluestone," an industrial and technology park between Bluefield and Tazewell, will open for self-guided tours Friday starting at 9 AM.

It's been the subject of political debate in Tazewell County, as the project began several years ago and the land is still vacant.

But now, the public can get their first glance at the 680-acre county-owned property.

And it's also a chance for businesses that are interested in using a site at the Bluestone, to take a tour.

Leaders say it's part of their aggressive marketing campaign to bring those businesses in.

"We're trying to create jobs so our kids can stay here and make a good living and stay close to family," said Jim Spencer, Tazewell County Administrator. "We want to diversify our economy, attract new industry into Tazewell County, and allow existing businesses to expand."

Maps will be available at the entrance to the park, with each site labeled so you can easily find your way.

Plans for the park include residential, retail, as well as industrial areas. A dental school affiliated with Bluefield College is also proposed.
