Bristol asks judge to toss lawsuit over bond issue

BRISTOL, Va. (AP) -- The city of Bristol, Va., is asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit that alleges a bond issue didn't meet city and state legal requirements.
The city denies the allegations in its response to the lawsuit.
Bristol resident Travis Campbell filed the lawsuit in November in Bristol Circuit Court. The lawsuit claims that the city didn't hold two readings and a public hearing, which the city charter requires.
City attorney Pete Curcio tells the Bristol Herald Courier that the city used the Public Finance Act instead of the charter.
The city issued $10 million in general obligation bonds earlier this year to help fund The Falls commercial center.
Campbell's lawsuit asks the court to void the bond issue.
A trial is set for Jan. 30.
