W.Va. reports two traffic fatalities over holiday

SOUTH CHARLESTON (NEWS RELEASE) -- During the recent Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend (November 27-December 1, 2013) the West Virginia State Police reported the following activity:

  • Fatal Crashes: 2
  • Fatalities: 2
  • Fatalities with Seatbelts: 0
  • Alcohol Related Collisions: 7
  • Total Collisions: 93
  • DUI Arrests: 44
  • Speeding Citations: 1198
  • Seat Belt Citations: 245
  • Child Restraint Citations: 13
  • Motorists Assists: 500

"The reported activity for the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend is somewhat disheartening," said First Sergeant Michael Baylous. "When considering the total number of DUI arrests and alcohol related collisions, it is clear that some people are either not getting the message or are completely apathetic about highway safety.  The unacceptable behavior of these folks continues to put their own lives and the lives of countless others in harm's way.  There are no legitimate excuses for such behavior."
