CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Dana Holgorsen's job as West Virginia's football coach is safe for now.
Athletic director Oliver Luck issued a statement Tuesday indicating he's sticking with Holgorsen after the Mountaineers finished 4-8 and missed out on a bowl for the first time in 12 seasons.
Luck says there were "far too many disappointments" and that the football team "must get better."
Holgorsen is 21-17 in three seasons, including the Mountaineers' first two in the Big 12. In 2014 he'll earn at least $2.7 million in salary and bonuses in the third year of a six-year contract.
Holgorsen must replace 11 starters, including six on defense, and will be under some heat to turn things around. But the early schedule isn't favorable. The Mountaineers open next season against Alabama in the Georgia Dome.
