Holiday of Lights festival opens in Bluefield


BLUEFIELD, W. Va (WVVA)-- A special display marks the beginning of the Christmas season in Bluefield.


The Holiday of Lights display officially opened to the public Thanksgiving night.

Parks and Recreation director Dwight Godwin says the drive-through spectacle includes more than 600,000 lights, and hundreds of separate displays.

We're told this year, it's bigger than ever.

City Manager Jim Ferguson says took months of preparation, and thousands are expected to enjoy it this season. Plus-- they're collecting donations for the Bluefield Union Mission.

"If you've got canned goods, please bring them by," he said.

He added there is no charge to visit the park to see the lights, but contributions are welcome.

The display is open Sunday to Thursday 6-9 PM, and Friday and Saturday6-10 PM. Visitors can come see the Holiday of Lights until New Year's Eve.
