Black Friday begins early, shoppers flock to malls

BLUEFIELD, W. Va (WVVA)-- People flocked to the Mercer Mall for Black Friday sales before the clock even struck midnight Thursday night.

Some mall retailers were open as early as 8 PM Thanksgiving evening.

We caught up with shoppers at Belk, where the lines wrapped around the building.

The store gave the first 250 shoppers free gift cards, one of which was loaded with $1000 dollars. That one went to Karen Taylor.

"I really came out here just to browse and look, but I guess I'll be buying tonight," she said, laughing.

Shoppers say they came prepared to handle the masses.

"I make my list a day before," said Trina Meadows. "I look online, and I get my newspaper and know what I'm going to get and what time the store's going to be open."

"[My plan is] just to run to the boots and grab as many sizes as I can," said Desiree Rodriguez.

The entire Mercer Mall opened around 12:00 AM Friday.
