Group serves several hundred free Thanksgiving dinners

TAZEWELL, Va (WVVA)-- A group in Tazewell County bands together to serve meals this Thanksgiving.

The "Psalm 91 Cafe", held at big daddy's restaurant in Tazewell, served more than 300 people a hot thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings... for free.

It's funded and staffed by volunteers from several area churches.

They say it's all about doing the lord's work, praying with those in need, and helping improve their lives.

Jennifer Absher, the mission coordinator, said, "The sweetest lady ever, she started crying and she said, 'I just didn't know what I was going to do today because we didn't have food. So the people here really don't have anything and it's so sad to know people in our area have to go without."

The cafe ran from 10 AM to 5 PM Thursday, and they plan to deliver leftovers to other families in need throughout the area.

Absher says they're hoping to eventually raise enough money to do more dinners like this in the future.
